Set Up Your New Site

Intro

Now that you’ve installed your WordPress site, it’s time to set it up. There’s basic housekeeping that has to happen.

Initial Settings

On the Dashboard, Select Settings/General. Here, you’ll verify the Site Name and Site Description. Also, set your timezone. I use New York.

NOTE: For Membership, leave Anyone Can Register unchecked for now. We’ll check that later when we open the site up for registration.

Now click the Save button.

Home and Posts Pages

In Settings/Reading you will set up your Home and Posts page. Leave this for later for when we customize the site theme.

Don’t forget to click Save.

Permalinks

Now, In Settings/Permalinks, you’ll see:

Make sure to select Post name as the Permalink type.

Click Save.
